KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (SCENIC) has received Merit Mention in the Most Impactful Public Sector Agency Driving Digital Adoption (State Level) during recent Top in Tech Innovation Awards 2022.
Supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Awards was organised by Malaysiakini and Digital News Asia with the goal of identifying all of the immense contributions made to the society and economy through digital adoption and innovative solutions in the midst of an unprecedented socio-economic crisis.
SCENIC Strategic Partnership and Brand Builder , Norsida Ajhari said the recognition at the federal level is significant to SCENIC which is a government initiative that was formed two years and 10 months ago.
“This is not the work of SCENIC alone, it is all of our strategic partners who have been involved directly and indirectly since its establishment.
“Since the pandemic, despite lockdown, SCENIC continues with its capacity building programmes, because to bring about change in the society, we need consistent efforts in training and upskilling our talents in Sabah. Being complacent is not a choice. ” she said in a media statement.
Norsida said throughout the establishment, SCENIC which is parked under the purview of KSTI, has collaborated with not only state but federal entities such as Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology (MRANTI), Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, MTDC, MyHarapan Youth Trust Foundation, US Embassy, Yayasan Hasanah including another international animation company, Toon Boom Animation headquartered in Canada.
SCENIC has also collaborated with Air Asia Academy in the Ratutech programme, granted accreditation for Toon Boom Authorised Training Centre, the formation of SCENIC Creative Academy (SCA), as well as successfully organised the SE Summit and Borneo Tech Summit.
Both summits, which were held for the first time in Borneo, aimed to raise awareness and knowledge about social entrepreneurship and technology respectively.
Meanwhile, SCENIC General Manager Viviantie Sarjuni who is based in Scotland for a 1 year masters programme under Chevening Award by the UK Government added that in building a thriving and functional ecosystem, there are three crucial parts that need to be strengthened in Sabah.
The three are infrastructure, capacity building activities and funding system.
“We are not experts in everything, but what we can do is to play the role of an ‘orchestrator’, who builds the network within the ecosystem so we can create greater value to the state and its people. We’d like to thank Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (KSTI) for their unwavering support, especially from the leadership of its Permanent Secretary, Datuk Zainudin Aman. Special appreciation as well to Bahagian Inovasi dan Teknologi Digital (BITD) a department under KSTI who went to the ground with SCENIC to understand challenges on the ground”
“It is no longer about the competition but collaboration with state and federal agencies, non-governmental organisations, higher learning institutions and our talents so we can bring greater value to the nation.”
Ends.
